Ets Luciat Frères et Cie (French, c.1935-1970s)

Ets Luciat Frères et Cie (The Luciat brothers and Co.) was the historical French footwear manufacturer, operating out of Tarbes, France, during the mid-20th century. The brand specialized in high-quality summer footwear that integrated traditional French craftsmanship with casual Mediterranean styles – such as embroidered linen and woven jute soles. 1935 historical records indicate that Cyprien LUCIAT had an industrial workshop in Tarbes, a region known for its proximity to traditional Pyrenean rope-sole and espadrille making. The Luciat brothers and Co. company also is mentioned in the Aude departmental archives between 1943 and 1950. Ets Luciat Frères et Cie combined high-end design sensibilities with traditional artisan techniques to cater to the mid-to-high luxury market. The company reached its peak production between the 1940s and late 1960s, serving as a prime example of vintage French regional luxury manufacturing. “Sandales Couture” was their flagship premium line, distinctively marked with fabric or leather labels stitched onto the footbeds.
