Dorndorf (German, 1876 – 2015)

Dorndorf is a traditional German brand with roots in a West German label known for functional elegance and orthopedic-inspired design. Dorndorf Schuhfabrik GmbH & Co. KG, was founded in 1876 by Raphael DORNDORF in Pöpelwitz, near Breslau. In 1931 this shoe factory was acquired by Langermann & Co. from Pirmasens, that had been owned by the Langermann family since 1926. It continued to operate under the name "Dorndorf GmbH" until 1938, when both factories in Zweibrücken were seized by the Nazis. In 1952, after the war, the shoe manufacturer Dietrich BAHNER acquired the company. By 1960 it produced circa 13 000 pairs of shoes daily and had over 3000 employees on the main factory in Zweibrücken-Niederauerbach and at branch plants in Munich and Frankfurt am Main. In 1970, the Dorndorf Group merged with the Servas Group in Rodalben to form Schuh-Union AG, which became part of the Rieker Group in 2002. Dorndorf brand was manufactured in Servas' factory in Liezen and distributed by Schuh-Union until 2015.
