Gabriel PALENCIA y UBANELL (Spain, 1869-1934)

Gabriel PALENCIA y UBANELL was a Spanish painter, decorator, and restorer of paintings for the Royal Household, who cultivated genre scenes. He was a protégé of Infanta Eulalia. He began his training in the studios of Casto PLASENCIA and José Moreno CARBONERO, later expanding it in Germany under Schmidt REITER. His works were submitted to the National Fine Arts Exhibitions, winning a third-place medal in 1895 for the painting entitled "Martyrdom of Saint Eulalia" and a third-place medal in 1901. He decorated a ceiling in the palace of Infanta Isabel and restored one of the ceilings of the Prince's Cottage and the library of the El Escorial Monastery.
