Angelo TARLAZZI (Ascoli Piceno, Italy, 1942)

Angelo TARLAZZI is an Italian fashion designer based in Paris, he is often called "the most Parisian of Italian designers". After the study at Sciences Po in Rome and the work as an assistant at the Carosa fashion house, he moved to Paris in 1965 and worked as Michel GOMA's assistant at Jean Patou house until 1968, when he left for New York. There he worked as freelancer for the Jerry Silverman fashion house and was called back by Carosa to become their artistic director. In collaboration with Laura BIAGIOTTI he created her new ready-to-wear collection. In 1972 eturned to Paris to succeed Michel GOMA as artistic director of Jean Patou. He decided to shake up the house's established style and created four evening "handkerchief" gowns for the runway show, knotted and draped on the models, like pareos. His own line was presented in April 1977, featuring sequined evening gowns that slipped on like simple t-shirts. After the death of Guy LAROCHE he served as artistic director of his house from 1989 to 1993. In 1996 he became the new ready-to-wear designer for Carven. In 2012, he was one of 15 designers (Félix, Olivier Lapidus, Jean-Claude Jitrois, Junko Shimada, Franck Sorbier, Jérôme L’huillier, Julien Fournié, etc.) who participated in Sarah OHANA's project for the Brigitte BARDOT brand. In 2017, he served on the jury of the PV Awards, presented by Première Vision's international textile trade show, alongside actor John MALKOVICH. Since 2015, he has been a member of the Couture-Création Classification Commission, which awards the "Haute Couture" designation.
