Maxcopp (American, 1938-1950s)
Maxcopp (sometimes Max Kopp) – was an American garment label, produced popular 1930s fashion, especially rayon novelty print dresses, reflecting the era's shift towards more defined waists, padded shoulders, bias cuts for slinky evening gowns, and casual sportswear, all heavily influenced by Hollywood glamour and the need for affordable, stylish clothing during the Great Depression, using bright prints and intricate details like unique pockets and bows on daywear and elegant drapes on eveningwear. It was founded in 1920s by Herschel and Rose KOPP, emigrants from Romania, who at first lived in NYC, and, finally, in Passaic, NJ. They had eight children, born between 1883-1898, Max KOPP was one of them. He started with his own brand in New York City by at least the late 1930s, and the company's peak production occurred during the 1940s and 1950s.
