Carlssons (Swedish, 1940s-1976)
Carlssons is the hat brand of Hjo hat factory, that was founded by Signe CARLSSON and was located at Hamngatan 7, in Hjo, Västra Götaland County, Sweden. Signe started her hat factory with a small amount of money and developed it into a successful business that was active during the 1940s and 1950s. CARLSSON was also known for her involvement in the local community. She led a petition and convinced the municipality to preserve the old steamer "Trafik" in Hjo harbour, which would otherwise have been sold and moved. The ship was converted into a popular summer café. She is remembered as an important person in Hjo's local history, whose business acumen and commitment contributed to the town's development and the preservation of its cultural heritage. The business itself had a long history and the building has later been used for other purposes, including as a hostel and café. The factory seems to have closed sometime in the end of 1960s. Items from the factory were donated to the Västergötlands Museum in 1976, which suggests that the operation had ceased at that time.
