Šumavan Vimperk (Czech, 1907-1992)
Šumavan Vimperk was one of the most famous manufacturers of the shirts in the then Austria-Hungary. The history of men's shirt production in Klatovy dates back to 1866. In the 1880s, there were several companies in Klatovy that produced men's shirts. The Šumavan factory was built in 1907 by the laundry company Joss & Löwenstein. After World War II Šumavan Vimperk merged all Šumavan clothing companies, so it became the largest producer of men's shirts and pajamas in former Czechoslovakia. In its strongest years, Šumavan employed over three thousand people. Some brands were exported to the former Soviet Union, that's why we can see labels printed in Cyrillic. After the national company ceased operations, some its ex-managers started their own companies, to which some of the former Šumavan employees also joined. That's why Joka, Shumavan and Joss brands still existed.
