Tonak (Czech, founded in 1799)
Tonak is the most famous hat brand in the Czech Republic. Founded in 1799, today this factory is one of the largest hat manufacturers in Europe, mostly produces felt or linen hats for ladies, gentlemen, and children.
The beginning of industrial textile production in this region dates back to 1812 when the production of globally renowned knitted fezzes started. The first fez was made in Strakonice in 1807, and in 1812 the FÜRTH brothers founded a cap and fez making company. Everything takes place with the use of traditional technologies solely on the territory of the Czech Republic. Behind the production of Tonak headwear there are up to 150 operations, 80 of which are entirely manual. Their product range includes a wide selection of felt hats, hat bodies and knitted headwear, formal hats for men and women, berets, and straw hats.
