Milgrim (American, early 1920s – 1990)
Milgrim was a fashion store that existed in New York City from the early 1920s. It get its name from Sally MILGRIM, the store's main designer, because like many other stores in that time, Milgrim had both a bespoke service and ready-to-wear department, where they sold French designs. Later on Milgrim opened stores in Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, and other cities in the East. Milgrim's ready-to-wear collections were sold in department stores across the country. One of the other labels of the company was "salymil" – short version of Sally MILGRIM's name.
Milgrim is famous as one of the first advertisers, who used selebrities in its ads. Sally MILGRIM herself designed three inaugural dresses for American first ladies Florence HARDING, Grace COOLIDGE, and Eleanor ROOSEVELT. She retired in 1960, but the last company's store in Cleveland closed in 1990.
Sally Milgrim retired in 1960. The New York store was converted into a movie theater. Some of the other stores remained open, the last one, in Cleveland, closed in 1990.
