Jean Antoine Théodore GIROUST (French, 1780-1835)
Jean Antoine Théodore GIROUST was a French history and portrait painter who was primarily active in the early 19th century. He is sometimes confused with another French painter of the same name, also known simply as Antoine GIROUST.
GIROUST was born in Versailles in 1780. He was a pupil of the painter DAVID before exhibiting at the Salon himself from 1808 to 1835. His biography is now lost but he is known for a portrait of the Duke of Chartres as a child, a portrait of the Count of Gâvre, Prefect of Seine and Oise and a portrait of Captain BROTIER now kept at the Autun Museum.
