In 1881, Ferdinand MULHENS, the grandson of Wilhelm MULHENS, founder of Franz Maria Farina perfumery factory in Cologne, gave up the name “Franz Maria Farina” which the family had used and opened a new company at his home “Eau de Cologne & Parfümerie Fabrik Glockengasse № 4711 gegenüber der Pferdepost von Ferd. Mülhens in Köln am Rhein”, and he baptized his Eau de Cologne 4711, the number of his house.
