Sonja GEORGI (German, 1915 - 1957)
Sonja GEORGI (born Sonja WALTHER, 1915 - 1957) was a German fashion photographer, daughter of the portrait and fashion photographer Hedda WALTHER. From 1935/36 she worked as an operator in the Binder studio and in 1936 opened her own studio for portrait and fashion photography, where she was successful as a photographer until 1943. Most of her shots were taken in studio, but she also worked outdoors in front of striking architecture.
In April 1945 she fled from Berlin to Keitum on Sylt, where she worked for the British occupation forces in Wenningstedt. In 1953 she moved to Hamburg, where she again opened a studio and befriended the photographer Hubs FLOTER. She worked for numerous fashion magazines in the 1950s, including the magazine "Stern". She was hired in 1955 by Curt WALDENBERGER and made shots for fashion catalogues and commissioned work for the textile industry.
She committed suicide in 1957.
