Alphonse Justin LIEBERT (French, 1826 - 1913)

Alphonse Justin LIEBERT was a French photographer. He took a large number of shots of personalities, political and cultural events during his long professional career. Alphonse LIEBERT was first a naval officer but passionate about photography, he quickly turned to this activity. Around 1853, he settled in California (United States) before returning to France in 1863, where he settled in Paris. He changes his address regularly. First, at 6 rue Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, then 13 boulevard des Capucines, then at 81 rue Saint-Lazare, finally at 6 rue de Londres. In 1873, he became a member of the French Society of Photography. In 1897, he founded with his son Georges the company "A. Liébert et Cie" for the manufacture and sale of silver pyroxyline photographic paper. However, the company declared bankruptcy on August 21, 1906. Alphonse LIEBERT died at the age of 86 on June 18, 1913 and was buried in the Père-Lachaise cemetery.
