The newspaper was founded on 18 September 1851 by banker George JONES and journalist and politician Henry Jarvis RAYMOND. It is then called New-York Daily Times. The title is renamed New-York Times in 1857 and the dash is abandoned in 1896. The newspaper was awarded 122 Pulitzer Prizes.
