Terra Filmkunst (German, 1920 - 1980s)
The Berliner Terra Film was one of the largest German film production companies of the 1930s.
The film group was formed on January 8, 1920 from the conversion of Hella Moja Film GmbH into Terra Film GmbH and the founding of Terra Film distribution GmbH and Terra Theaterbetrieb GmbH. Terra Film was founded in October 1920. Terra Film GmbH was transformed into Terra Haus GmbH on May 20, 1921. On June 22, 1922, Terra acquired the studio and copying facilities of Eiko-Film GmbH in Berlin-Marienfelde. It was continued as Terra Glashaus GmbH until September 1929, when the company name was changed to Terra-Production GmbH.
In the course of the nationalization of the film industry, Terra was renamed Terra-Filmkunst GmbH in July 1937 and was now majority-owned by the state-owned Cautio Treuhand GmbH. From then on it produced in the Tempelhof studios of Ufa-Filmkunst GmbH. In 1942 it was incorporated into the parent company Ufa-Film GmbH (UFI) and retained only formal independence.
From the early 1960s to the 1980s, the West Berlin company Terra-Filmkunst GmbH again appeared as a producer and co-producer of more than 100 films.
