Hofstetter Sports (Swiss, founded 1934)
Hofstetter Sports is a sport clothing and equipment house founded in 1934 at the Passage des Lions in Geneva, Switzerland, by Ernest HOFSTETTER who grew up on skis in Davos. The vagaries of life brought him to Geneva. He worked there as a precision mechanic but dreamed of returning to the mountains. To continue living his passion in the city, the idea came to him to open a store dedicated to winter sports, almost a first at this time.
In 1939, the shop moves to rue de la Corraterie, one of the most beautiful streets in Geneva.
In the spring of 1952, Ernest HOFSTETTER set out to conquer Everest with Sherpa Tenzing and his friends from the Geneva Mountain Club, Androsace. The expedition, which was carried out without oxygen, failed 200 meters from the goal, but it opened the now classic "southern route".
In 1969 Michel HOFSTETTER, the son of Ernest HOFSTETTER, took over the reins of Hofstetter Sports. He developed fashion in the direction of luxury and paid particular attention to the preparation of skis.
In 1990 Hofstetter Sports merged with another luxury brand, Bongénie.
In 2021 Hofstetter Sports moved at 50, route de Thonon, 1222 Vésenaz.
