Horace J. PATTERSON (American, 1920 - 2014 Arlington, Texas)

Horace J. "Pat" PATTERSON, was an American photographer for 30 years with The States-Item and The Times-Picayune. Mr. PATTERSON photographed seven U.S. presidents during his career, which ended when he retired in 1985. He won first place in an Associated Press competition for his picture of a man who had jumped off the Greater New Orleans Bridge (now the Crescent City Connection) over the Mississippi River. A native New Orleanian, Mr. Patterson had lived in the city until 2009, when he moved to Red Oak, Texas, to live with his daughter, Karen SHILLING. He attended Delgado Technical School (now Delgado Community College) and served in the National Guard and the Army. During World War II, he was assigned to the British West Indies. Mr. PATTERSON was a lieutenant in the New Orleans Police Reserve.
