La Russie Illustrée (French, Russian language 1924 - 1939)

La Russie Illustrée [Иллюстрированная Россия; Illustrated Russia], a weekly literary and illustrated magazine of Russian emigration. Published in Paris in Russian from 1924 to 1939 (by M. MIRONOV, later by A. KUPRIN and finally by B. GORDON). The editorial board of the journal at different times included Ivan BUNIN, Zinaida GIPPIUS, Boris ZAITSEV, Dmitry MEREZHKOVSKY and Ivan SHMELEV. The publication was carried out at a high technical and artistic level. A number of covers were made by famous Russian artists (Filipp MALYAVIN, Konstantin KOROVIN, Feodor ROZHANKOVSKY, Ivan BILIBIN, Alexandre BENOIS). More than 700 magazine issues represent a monumental life chronicle of the Russian emigration in wide geographical areas (Europe, the Far East, America, South America, Japan etc.). In 1929 the magazine launched the Miss Russia beauty pageants in Paris.
