Lewis VASLET (British, York 1742 - 1808 Bath)

Lewis VASLET, born June 13, 1742 in York and died November 1808 in Bath, was an English painter, mostly famous for his pastel and miniature portraits. Lewis VASLET first started his career in the army, but he abandoned his military career while staying in Gibraltar, and traveled to Italy to study painting. He concentrated his art on portraits in oil, pastel, and miniature techniques. From 1770 to 1780 he exposes 10 of his miniatures at the Royal Academy. During these years he worked mostly in York and returned to Italy one more time. He settled in Bath around 1775, remaining there until the end of his life.
