F&R Lazarus & Company (American, 1851 - 2005)

F&R Lazarus & Company – commonly known as Lazarus – was a regional department store retail chain operating primarily in the U.S. Midwest, and based in Columbus, Ohio. Founded by Rabbi Simon LAZARUS in 1851, for over 150 years, Lazarus was influential in the American retail industry, particularly during the early 20th century as a founding partner in Federated Department Stores. While Lazarus was primarily associated with Columbus, the company grew through acquisitions, including Cincinnati's oldest department store, John Shillito & Company (Shillito's), in 1928. As part of the Federated group, Lazarus stores were rebranded to Macy's in 2003, with the final conversion completed by 2005.
