Annemarie HEISE (German, 20th century)

Annemarie HEISE (of probably Jewish origin) was a fashionable Berlin based designer in the 1930s and 40s, popular with female screen stars as much as the wives of the National Socialist leaders. In addition to film divas such as Zarah LEANDER and Marika ROKK, clients included Magda GOEBBELS and Eva BRAUN. BRAUN wore a HEISE design on the occasion of HITLER's 54th birthday in 1943 on the 'Berghof' on the Obersalzberg near Berchtesgaden. Ina LAUTENSCHLAGER, a member of Hans and Hilde Coppi's Communist circle worked as a model at Annemarie Heise's fashion salon, one of the most exclusive in Berlin. At that time, salon models also served customers and rang up sales. Ina was popular with both the salon's owner and her clientele, which allowed her to "spy" on the wives of the big Nazis. Nonetheless, the shop's owner took a dim view of the Nazis. Mrs HEISE was a close friend of the film star Joachim GOTTSCHALK and his family, who was forced by GOEBBELS to divorce his Jewish wife.
