Gilles BERR also known as Gil BAER, ​​born in Strasbourg on February 17, 1863 and died in Paris on April 22, 1931, is a French cartoonist and illustrator. Gilles BERR so called Gil Baer (sometimes written GilBaer and Gil Baër) was the son of the lithographer Léopold BERR, originally from Strasbourg. He met some success from 1883. In 1887, he married Marie-Thérèse BLOCH. His wife was particularly well introduced to the literary and artistic world. Before the war he illustrated the covers of popular novels of the series "The great adventures" published by Ferenczy. During the First World War, he illustrated many humorous postcards. He illustrates books by Michel CORDAY, Jean VALGORGE, Charles TALBERE, etc. He draws for illustrated newspapers such as La Chronique parisienne, Le Petit Français Illustré, Jean qui rit, Le Pèle Mélle, Le Rire, Les Annales Politiques et Littéraires, Paris amuses, L'Assiette aueurre, Collection des cent. In 1925 he co-founded the Artistic Union of French Cartoonists. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1926.
