Faïencerie Lunéville - Saint-Clément (French, founded 1730)

The Lunéville - Saint-Clément earthenware factory has been the heir to the prestigious Lorraine earthenware since the 18th century: Lunéville and Saint-Clément. The Lunéville factory was founded around 1730, while that of Saint-Clément was founded around 1758, making it the oldest pottery still in operation. It was the Keller and Guérin family (K & G) who managed the Lunéville factory from 1786 to 1923, after Sébastien KELLER bought the pottery from the CHAMBRETTE family, following the bankruptcy of 1785. It was around 1832 that KELLER son joined forces with his brother-in-law GUERIN to give birth to this KG brand and it was in 1892 that the KG bought the Saint-Clément factory, whose production they devoted to artistic earthenware with the collaboration of big names such as Emile GALLE, Ernest BUSSIERE, Edmond LACHENAL, etc. After the difficulties of the Great War, the company returned to normal production. The problem of succession at the head of the earthenware factory quickly arises, the administrators being elderly. Finding no buyers in their family, the Keller's and Guérin's are forced to sell. It was Edouard FENAL, son of the founder of the Badonviller earthenware factories, who, in 1923, became the owner of Lunéville Saint-Clément after having bought all of the Keller and Guérin shares. The group then made a takeover bid in 1978 on the Sarreguemines earthenware factory and continues both the specific production of each style of earthenware as well as the artistic production. In 2006, Faïence et Cristal de France, owners of the Niderviller earthenware factory, the Vallérysthal crystal factory and the Portieux crystal factory also took possession of the Lunéville-Saint-Clément earthenware factories. A new group which perpetuates the know-how of the fire arts of Lorraine was born: Terres d’Est.
