Jean BOURGOINT (French, 1905 - 1966)

Artist, designer, born in Montmartre, leading a bohemian life and frequenting "Le Boeuf sur le Toit", Jean BOURGOINT is close to Jean COCTEAU, Jean HUGO and Jacques MARITAIN. With his sister Jeanne, model, they inspired the characters of Paul and Elisabeth of Jean COCTEAU novel "Les Enfants terribles". Influenced by Alex-Ceslas RZEWUSKI, Jean BOURGOINT entered religion, became a Trappist and lay brother before leaving to treat lepers in Mokolo in Cameroon.
