Candide BLAIZE (French, Nancy 1795 – ca. 1855 Paris)

Painter of portraits and miniatures, the Lorraine Candide BLAIZE was born in Nancy in 1795, and died in Paris around 1855. He spent most of his career in Paris. He exhibited there at the Salon from 1822 to 1846, and in 1836 obtained a third class medal. He lived at the Earl of Hertford house and had a very active clientele, notably George SAND and her son. Candide BLAIZE was very influenced by ISABEY whose style he adopted before emancipating himself from this master; he was very successful in portraying children.
