Sonia ABELOOS (Belgian, Brussels 1876-1969 Brussels)
Sonia Abeloos, born in Brussels in 1876 and died in Brussels in 1969, is a Belgian painter who painted mainly landscapes, seascapes and portraits.
Painter of still lifes, seascapes and portraits, Sonia Abeloos is a student of the Brussels Academy, where she studied under the direction of Isidore Verheyden (1848-1905), Guillaume Van Strydonck (1861-1937), but also of Dillens and Rousseau. Member of the artistic circle of Brussels. She exhibited, from 1910 to 1918, in the Belgian and French salons, at the National Society of Fine Arts (Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts), 1914 (Salon de Bruxelles), 1909-1918 in London, 1928 (Salon de Liege), 1930-1933 (Salon des Artistes Francais), realistic paintings tinged with luminism.
In 1966, on the occasion of her 90th birthday, the National Council of Women, of which she was then the oldest, wanted to honor the artist by organizing a visit of his studio. The exhibition featured works representing 70 years of activity.
